About Long Green Pony Club |
Long Green Pony Club is a local club in the Maryland Region of the United States Pony Clubs, Inc. Our activities take place at Thornridge Manor, Camelot Farms and various other barns and homes in the Long Green and Monkton areas of Baltimore County and Harford County, Maryland. Long Green Pony Club, like all pony clubs, is a completely volunteer organization. The enthusiasm and dedication of our volunteer officers and parents are directly responsible for the quality of the pony club experience of our members. Without volunteerism, pony club could not exist.
LGPC provides our members with lessons and team coaching in many riding disciplines, including jumping, cross-country, dressage, eventing and others as needed, both for ongoing skill enhancement and in preparation for rallies and other competitive events. In addition to being highly regarded within their respective disciplines our coaches are, we feel, truly exemplary people to be mentoring our members.
We also sponsor a variety of unmounted educational experiences for our members throughout the year. These include clinics, demonstrations and other presentations by outside guests who have expertise in specific areas of the horse world. These could include a demonstration by a local farrier on shoeing and hoof care, a visit to an equine veterinary surgical center or a demonstration of horse massage by a local practitioner. These activities, in addition to being great fun, enhance our members' horse knowledge, horse management skills and deepen their awareness of the many facets of the equine world. It also helps prepare them for "Quiz" (formerly called "KnowDown"), a region-wide rally in which teams from each club compete in their command of horse knowledge of all kinds. We also have a pony club day camp for a week during the summer.
Although remaining a small enough club to always be responsive to each member's needs is part of our mission, we are currently in a growth phase and are actively encouraging new membership. If you would like more information about LGPC or would like to come to a meeting and get acquainted, please contact us.
